We are so blessed to live so close to one of the best children's hospitals in the country! We have been so pleased with all the doctors and nurses and the care that Ellie has been given. It is hard to see her with all the monitors, tubes and IVs that she's had but she has been such a brave little patient to go through all of this.
I think Rhome and Rhett have scored the most with Ellie being in the hospital. They were given little buddies to play doctor with and they missed out on the trick-or-treating at the hospital but they stocked them up with all the goodies that were being handed out. I think we will come up to the hospital to go trick-or-treating every year. They give out lots of toys and not so much candy.
We weren't able to hold Ellie after her catheter exam yesterday because of where they inserted the catheter so Mike came up early in the morning to be with her. He's been having withdrawls and was also anxious to talk with the cardiologists again. They are going to try to hold off on her heart surgery for a few months until she can grow a little bigger and then they will do the "gut" surgery after that. The good news today is that moving her pulmonary veins to the correct side of her heart doesn't look as complicated as they thought it would be.
Ellie has been doing well and they expect that she will be discharged sometime tomorrow. I think we will all be a little on edge having her at home again, hoping that she won't have another episode like last weekend.
I bet you never thought you'd have to learn so much about the heart. Those random anatomy classes you had to take in high school and college might finally be paying off.:) Thanks for keeping us posted. I hope Ellie willbe home soon.
