3 weeks since Ellie's initial heart surgery...
Today Ellie was taken off the milrinone which helps with the squeeze of the heart. It was an easy one day wean and she has tolerated it well. With her being off this last IV medication, technically she could go up to the surgical floor to recover (although we are really used to the CICU and like the attention here). Now she is only on oxygen and sildenafil for her pulmonary hypertension and will most likely go home on both of these. She really has come a long way! The chest tube drainage has been less today but it can put out a lot during the night so we are praying that it will keep slowing down. They already have her on the schedule for the OR tomorrow just in case but we hope, hope, hope that she won't have to go there again. Ellie has loved playing with the maracas that were left by the music therapist. They are the perfect size for her and she just shakes, shakes, shakes away! So cute.
Rhome and Rhett were finally able to come up and visit Ellie. I'm sure they miss having her at home and playing with her but they are more than happy to come to the hospital to see her and to play in the forever young zone. They LOVE it there. Today they made Cinco de Mayo hats, played with play doh, had singing time, and painted pictures. They also worked with the Child Life Specialist for a little bit who gave them hospital buddies and tried to talk to them about what is going on with Ellie and some of the equipment and things they do in the hospital. I think the boys have handled everything really well for the past 3 weeks and it certainly helps having Grammy and Grampy care for them each day.
